My name is Christina Reed. I am 20 years old and I am a sophomore here at the University of Cincinnati. I am from Mokena Illinois, which is about 25 miles south of Chicago. I am a huge Chicago sports fan (besides the cubs :P) I typically find time to watch the bulls or bears games. If not, I have updates set up to my phone and it sends me scores. Being here makes me miss home especially some foods. My favorite food is Portillo's chop salad which you can only find around the Chicago land area. I have two sisters Mary Kate (21) and Kelly (17) and a crazy white English retriever Kaci. I have two loving parents and a big extended family. I am thoroughly convinced that I was born in the wrong decade and would do anything to be a 70s/80s baby. I rarely listen to music these days I think the newest music I actually enjoy is 90s music (barenaked ladies, blues traveler, wallflowers, third eye blind, etc.) I am on the women's soccer team here at UC which consumes most of my time. I have been playing soccer since I was about 4 and I've always loved it. Being committed to soccer doesn't leave a lot of room for other activities. When I do have time however, I usually enjoy watching movies with my boyfriend and my new pit/lab puppy raja (she has tiger stripes) I am a huge movie buff and could have movie marathons all day. Hanging out is pretty much all I do because I'm always too tired to do anything else. I also have recently developed a bit of an online shopping addiction. I am a middle childhood education major and I love to work with kids. I am a very hard-working and personable person. I also am a very clean person I believe having a clean room will help me sleep better at night so my room is typically spotless. I look forward to learning more each day in hopes of my dream of becoming a teacher.
Professional Goals:
I have a few professional goals right now. My first professional goal would be to graduate on time in 2 more years. With that, I would like to have a good GPA and a good portfolio/resume. Another professional goal would be to get a teaching certificate and go to graduate school. My last professional goal that I think would be most important would be to get a job as soon as possible. I know coming out of college it is hard, especially for teachers, to get a job but I would like to have a job soon or at least set up some connections for the future.
Goals for this Course:
Some goals I have for this course would be to learn more about different teaching methods and different tools. Technology is rapidly evolving and this affects the teaching world drastically. With that being said, I hope to learn how to use more of these technologies and integrate them into my lessons. I think this course will be important because I think technologies are a really good teaching tool, especially for kids. I think certain technologies can keep the attention of kids and also help them learn.
Why I want to be an Educator:
Connection to my classroom: I can use my web cam to record videos of myself teaching if it was ever needed. For example, if a student is sick and I can send them a video of what was done in class. Also I can watch this video for motivation if I am ever having a bad day in my classroom. Connection to the standards: Standard 3. This talks about transferring knowledge using current technologies. This is perfect when talking about sending sick students videos of you teaching.
Connection to my classroom: I can use Animoto for a lot of things in my classroom. I can be used as a more interesting way of PowerPoint. It better grab children's attention and I can also set it to music. With the use of pictures you can show them how to properly cite things. Connection to the standards: Standard 4. With the use of Animoto you can make a picture slide show to intrigue your students. However you have to give credit for the pictures you use. This ties into the fourth standard by showing responsibility and giving ownership to the source.

I will definitely be using Prezi in my future classroom. It is a great substitute for PowerPoint and it gives you the freedom of more creativity in your lessons. Connection to the standards: Standard 1. Standard one talks about teachers using technology to promote and teach creativity. I think Prezi is a great way to use your creativity to present maybe not so interesting topics.
WeTopia is a game played through Facebook. It allows players to connect with friends, build a city, and spend a unique form of currency called “Joy” that spreads real-world aid to various non-profits around the world. WeTopia has players start a brand new community from scratch and build a successful metropolis. As players collect money from residents which in turn buys crops that creates goods for shops, players also accumulate “Joy” through acts of good nature. Joy is a form of currency that is used in-game by the player to affect real world causes. Players choose which campaigns their Joy is shared with, and as a cause receives 100% Joy from players, allowing them to become a reality. Connection to my classroom: I can use this game in my classroom because every little kid loves to play computer game. This standard talks about growth and leadership through technology which this game promotes. This game also deals with real life issues that help students realize what is going on in the world and how they can help.
Connection to my classroom: Along with Animoto, in my classroom I will always be using pictures for examples. Children respond better to pictures. I can use this collage maker for activities in my class. Connection to the standards: Standard 4 says that educators need to promote and teach safe media etiquette. In our collage we have examples of social media websites that allow users to upload pictures which can then be distributed. When signing up for these networks the terms and agreements state that the media they upload will and can be used by other people without their consent and that they no longer hold copyrights. In the terms Fair Use teachers are allowed to use media as long as they educate, cite and use appropriately in the classroom. Many times teachers use photos and videos to carry out messages in order to teach their students. Distributing media for money is illegal, but is allowed to be used educationally.
Connection to my classroom: As a teacher I will hope to be using rubrics in my class. As an early education teacher I don't know how much I will use them but I know as a student I really enjoyed rubrics because I liked knowing what needed to get done. Connection to the standards: Standard 1. This talks about promote student reflection using collaborative tools. This can be with the use of a rubric because they can look at the rubric and reflect on what they did and see if they are up to par.
